In 2006, William “Billy” Shaw began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) journey under Alexandre Quintella. After proving himself as an instructor and fighter, he was awarded Billy his BJJ Black Belt. Besides being an experienced BJJ fighter, Billy has focused his efforts towards sharing his BJJ knowledge with anyone who is willing to learn self-defense, physical fitness, and self-discipline. Billy’s unique style of BJJ focuses on the techniques that actually work on the mat, and during situations where an individual may have to defend their life or the lives of the loved ones. Billy’s competition and instructing background include:
- 13 years of active competition.
- Multiple North American Grappling Association Championships.
- Primary Instructor at Quintella MMA’s Beginner BJJ, Fundamentals BJJ, Self-Defense, and Kids BJJ.
- Head BJJ Coach of the Delaware Army National Guard’s Combatives Team.
Billy frequently coaches professional MMA fighters, competitive BJJ fighters, law enforcement officers, and military personnel. His students have won multiple championships. Additionally, he takes pride in the fact he has been able to develop children who were once considered being victims of bullies, into confident and capable little warriors.
Billy is married to Elyse Shaw. Elyse is a Jiu Jitsu white belt, outdoors enthusiast, medical professional, and artist. The Shaw’s take pride in rescuing and fostering dogs. They reside in Wilmington, DE.
